MCC NEET PG 2026 NRI Corrigendum: Parent/Sponsor Passport Now Mandatory
Official update dated 14 October 2026: the Medical Counselling Committee has issued a corrigendum for NRI documents in Round 1 of NEET PG Counselling 2026. Candidates applying under Category I or Category IV must submit a valid passport of the applicable NRI parent, real brother, real sister or sponsor for registration and verification.
Action required: Add the applicable relative’s or sponsor’s valid passport to the complete document set already prescribed in the MCC PG Information Bulletin. A passport alone is not sufficient; the earlier NRI certificate, affidavits, relationship and support documents continue to apply.
What Changed
Applicant route | Earlier bulletin position | Corrigendum addition |
|---|---|---|
Category I | Candidate passport, NRI certificate, affidavit by NRI parent/real brother/real sister and relationship proof, as applicable | Valid passport of the applicable parent, real brother or real sister |
Category IV | Candidate passport plus NRI certificate, guardian relationship/support evidence, notarised affidavit and NRE proof, as applicable | Valid passport of the applicable sponsor |
Important: the corrigendum says the added passport is required in addition to the existing document list. It does not relax relationship, sponsorship or financial-support evidence.
Who Is Affected
Round 1 candidates selecting NRI status during MCC registration.
Category I candidates relying on the NRI status of a parent, real brother or real sister.
Category IV candidates relying on an NRI sponsor/guardian route.
Candidates whose documents are already prepared but do not include the applicable person’s valid passport.
Data Analysis and Seat Context
Verified item | Current position | Interpretation |
|---|---|---|
NRI seats in revised Deemed matrix | 998 | Seat availability is unchanged by this document corrigendum. |
Eligibility verification | Passport requirement added | A candidate can see NRI options only after satisfying MCC’s verification process. |
Fees, stipend and bond | No change stated | Continue to verify institute-specific official financial terms separately. |
The figure of 998 NRI seats is from the current MCC Deemed matrix; it does not guarantee that any candidate will qualify for NRI status or receive a seat.
What Doctors Should Do Now
Select the correct NRI subcategory during MCC registration; do not choose a route merely because it appears easier.
Prepare the added passport: use a clear, valid copy of the applicable parent, real sibling or sponsor’s passport.
Keep the full prior set: include the candidate passport, NRI certificate, affidavit, relationship evidence and sponsor/support documents required for the chosen category.
Monitor registered email and SMS: MCC may raise a discrepancy during online verification. Respond within the correction window shown in the portal.
Carry originals at reporting: online acceptance does not remove the requirement for original-document verification at the allotted institute.
Round 1 registration is scheduled to close on 21 October 2026 at 12 noon IST; payment closes at 3:00 PM. Choice filling closes on 22 October 2026 at 10:00 AM IST. Candidates should complete NRI verification well before the final hours.
Decision Guidance
NRI eligibility is a gateway, not a choice-filling strategy. Once verified, compare each institute’s official tuition and deposits, stipend, bond or service obligation, clinical exposure, workload, location and branch fit. Do not assume that NRI seats have uniform fees or that a higher fee improves admission certainty.
If any relationship, sponsorship or passport fact is unclear, treat it as not yet officially confirmed until MCC verifies the submitted documents.

HGE guidance: Submit complete, internally consistent documents early. Never alter or create evidence to fit a category; MCC and the reporting institute will verify originals.
