NEET UG counselling — explained
What is NEET UG counselling?
NEET UG counselling is the centralised seat-allotment process for MBBS, BDS, BAMS, BHMS and BSMS courses. MCC conducts it for All India Quota (15% of govt seats), AIIMS, JIPMER, ESIC, AFMS and all deemed/central universities. State governments run parallel counsellings for the remaining 85% state-quota seats.
Who is eligible for All India Quota?
Any NEET-qualified student from any Indian state can participate in AIQ counselling for the 15% seats in state government colleges. J&K students were excluded historically but are now included. Students with Jamia, AMU, or BHU preference must check their specific quota rules.
How does seat allotment work?
MCC uses a merit-cum-preference system. Your allotment depends on your NEET rank, the choices you fill (in order of preference), available seats, category reservation and quota. Seats are locked to the highest-preference unfilled choice for which you are eligible on that round's cutoff.
