What NTA Has Officially Released
NTA released the question papers for all four re-examination sets and the provisional answer keys on 25 June 2026. The notice explained that the challenge process was opened while OMR scanning was still in progress so that expert review could begin early. Students must not confuse the provisional key with the final key used for result preparation.
The challenge window has closed. A candidate who submitted a challenge should keep the payment receipt, question number, booklet series and academic proof safely. NTA does not normally send a separate personal message telling each candidate whether a challenge was accepted. Any accepted correction is applied according to the final decision.
Provisional Answer Key vs Final Answer Key
A provisional key is NTA's first published answer set and is open to challenge for a limited period. The final answer key is prepared after subject experts examine valid challenges. The 2026 information bulletin states that result preparation is based on the revised final answer key and that the finalised key is displayed before declaration of result.
Therefore, do not circulate a provisional score as an official score. Early calculation is useful for preparing counselling scenarios, not for announcing a final rank.
How to Match the Correct Question Paper
The re-examination answer key was issued for booklet codes 50, 60, 70 and 80. Confirm the exact booklet code printed on the test booklet. Then match every question with the answer shown for that code. Do not use the sequence of another booklet because the same question may appear at a different number.
Prepare a four-column sheet: question number, your marked option, provisional correct option and status. Use correct, incorrect and not attempted. Mark disputed or dropped questions separately.
NEET 2026 Marking Formula
The information bulletin gives +4 marks for a correct or most appropriate answer, -1 for an incorrect marked option and 0 for an unanswered question. If a question is officially dropped, all candidates who appeared are awarded four marks whether or not they attempted it. Where more than one option is finally accepted, marks are awarded according to the official rule.
Use: Expected score = (correct answers x 4) - incorrect answers. Do not subtract marks for unattempted questions. For disputed questions, prepare a conservative and an optimistic total.
How to Review Your OMR Properly
The answer key tells you what NTA currently considers correct. Your recorded response or OMR display tells you what the system captured from your sheet. These are different documents. When recorded responses are available, verify each captured option carefully.
If NTA provides an OMR representation facility, use only the current official instructions. Keep screenshots and downloaded files instead of depending on a mobile browser session.
When a Challenge Is Valid
A challenge should have a clear academic basis such as NCERT text, the notified syllabus or another reliable academic reference. A coaching screenshot alone is weak evidence. The challenge must be filed under the candidate's own question paper series.
The 25 June notice clarified that an accepted correction is applied across the relevant sets. Candidates did not need to challenge the same underlying question under every series code.
What to Do After Score Estimation
Create conservative, realistic and optimistic score scenarios. Do not jump from marks to one exact AIR because marks-to-rank changes every year. Prepare documents, identify MCC and home-state routes, discuss the family's total budget and shortlist broad college scenarios.
After result, replace every estimated rank with official AIR. Recheck category, percentile and qualifying status before final counselling decisions.
Practical Student-Parent Example
If a student has 135 correct answers, 35 incorrect answers and 10 unattempted questions, the provisional expected score is 135 x 4 - 35 = 505. If two questions are disputed, the family should plan around a range instead of treating 505 as final.
