MCC NEET PG Counselling 2026: Final DNB Seat Matrix Published with 9,201 Seats
Official update: The Medical Counselling Committee (MCC), Directorate General of Health Services, has published the Final Seats Matrix for DNB PG Counselling 2026 on 14 October 2026. The official 503-page matrix contains 9,201 seats across 4,487 institute–speciality rows and 1,472 unique institute codes.
This is important because it converts DNB and Post MBBS Diploma opportunities from accreditation-level possibilities into seats officially listed for MCC counselling. It does not confirm that every NBEMS-accredited seat outside this matrix is available.
Doctor action: Download the final matrix, shortlist by course and branch, then verify each hospital’s training exposure, official fee, stipend, bond/contract and location before arranging choices. Round 1 registration closes at 12:00 noon on 21 October 2026; payment remains available until 3:00 PM. Choice filling closes at 10:00 AM on 22 October 2026, with locking from 4:00 PM on 21 October to 10:00 AM on 22 October 2026, all as per MCC server time.
What MCC Published
The matrix covers three distinct pathways. Keep them separate while comparing duration, training format and career fit:
DNB Broad Specialty: three-year post-MBBS training.
Post MBBS Diploma: two-year NBEMS diploma training.
Direct Six-Year DNB: integrated super-specialty training in the listed surgical branches.
Data Analysis
Course-level reconciliation
Course pathway | Seats | Share of 9,201 |
|---|---|---|
DNB Broad Specialty (3-year) | 6,548 | 71.17% |
Post MBBS Diploma (2-year) | 2,470 | 26.84% |
Direct 6-Year DNB | 183 | 1.99% |
Total | 9,201 | 100% |
Interpretation: The matrix is dominated by three-year DNB seats, but more than one in four seats is a two-year Post MBBS Diploma. Candidates must not compare these as identical qualifications or training pathways.
Government and private institute split
Institute type | Broad Specialty | Diploma | Direct 6-Year |
|---|---|---|---|
Government | 1,359 | 1,219 | 4 |
Private | 5,189 | 1,251 | 179 |
Total | 6,548 | 2,470 | 183 |
Private institutions account for 6,619 seats (71.94%), while government institutions account for 2,582 seats (28.06%). Institute type alone does not establish fee, stipend, workload or training quality; verify each hospital separately.
Published category-column totals
Category column | Seats | Category column | Seats |
|---|---|---|---|
Open | 7,614 | Open PwD | 52 |
EWS | 245 | EWS PwD | 13 |
OBC | 662 | OBC PwD | 35 |
SC | 368 | SC PwD | 19 |
ST | 184 | ST PwD | 9 |
The ten published columns reconcile exactly to 9,201 seats; the five PwD columns together contain 128 seats. Candidates should apply only under categories for which they meet MCC’s eligibility and documentation rules.
Largest branch pools in the final matrix
Branch | Seats | Share |

Orthopaedics | 688 | 7.48% |
Ophthalmology | 641 | 6.97% |

Hospital and Speciality Decision Support
Do not rank a DNB hospital using seat count or brand name alone. For each shortlisted institute, verify:
Training exposure: beds, OPD/IPD load, emergency, ICU, OT/procedures, referral mix and resident autonomy.
Academic structure: teaching schedule, thesis/research support, supervision and examination preparation.
Financial terms: official annual/total fee, refundable deposits, hostel/mess, stipend by year, deductions, bond or contractual penalty.
Career fit: branch-specific hands-on experience, location, cost of living, workload and post-training plans.
The matrix itself does not supply those hospital-level facts. They are not yet officially confirmed by this notice and should not be inferred from institute ownership. MD/MS versus DNB decisions remain branch- and institute-specific.
Choice-Filling Strategy
Build choices in your true preference order, including only seats you would genuinely consider accepting under the applicable MCC rules. A larger branch pool can widen the search, but outcomes still depend on NEET PG AIR, category, quota, choice order, budget, institute availability and round movement. This matrix does not guarantee admission and should not be used to manufacture a predicted cutoff.
