Government/aided MD/MS category reconciliation
The government summary publishes General, In-service, General-PwD and In-service-PwD intersections. The in-service-PwD value is a horizontal intersection and is not added again. The counted totals below reconcile to the official 1,581-seat headline.
Category | Official components | PwD/in-service overlap | Counted total |
|---|---|---|---|
SC | GEN 157; INS 39; GEN-PwD 8 | INS-PwD 2 | 204 |

Largest MD/MS specialty pools
Specialty | Government/aided | Private/minority | Combined published seats |
|---|---|---|---|
Anaesthesiology | 171 | 81 | 252 |
Obstetrics & Gynaecology | 146 | 72 | 218 |
General Surgery | 138 | 106 | 244 |
General Medicine | 138 | 104 | 242 |
Orthopaedics | 80 | 99 | 179 |
Paediatrics | 100 | 62 | 162 |
Pathology | 101 | 50 | 151 |
Radio-diagnosis | 74 | 68 | 142 |
A larger specialty pool creates more combinations of college, quota and category, but it does not guarantee allotment at any particular rank. Compare your applicable row, not only the overall specialty total.
PG Diploma matrix
PG Diploma specialty | Published seats |
|---|---|
Diploma in Anaesthesiology | 5 |
Diploma in Child Health | 2 |
Diploma in Public Health / Community Medicine | 1 |
Diploma in Medical Radio-diagnosis | 2 |
Diploma in Obstetrics & Gynaecology | 2 |
Diploma in Otorhinolaryngology | 1 |
Diploma in Psychological Medicine | 1 |
What changes for my rank, branch and category?
Use your SML number first: the final provisional State Merit List contains 7,242 candidates. Category, candidature type, NRI and PwD remarks remain subject to the document and authority conditions printed in the list.
Filter by the right quota: do not compare an OPEN state-quota seat with management or NRI seats as though they were interchangeable.
Keep ambitious choices above safer choices: preference order should reflect what you genuinely want. A safer option placed above a preferred ambitious option can block the higher preference if the safer option is allotted first.
Compare branch and institution separately: the matrix shows sizeable pools in Anaesthesiology, General Surgery, General Medicine and OBGYN, but college-level availability varies widely.
Do not infer a cutoff from the matrix: a seat matrix is supply data, not an opening or closing rank. No Round 1 allotment-derived cutoff exists until the selection list is published.
Choice-filling checklist
Open the final provisional merit list and confirm your SML number, category and candidature remark.
Use the correct matrix: government/aided MD/MS, private/minority MD/MS or PG Diploma.
Check the exact college, specialty, quota and category cell. Do not count PwD or in-service horizontal intersections as additional seats.
Verify quota-wise tuition and other applicable fees before adding a choice, as directed by the CET Cell.
Order choices by genuine preference and complete submission by 4 November 2026, up to 11:59 PM.
Save the submitted preference form/confirmation available in the portal.
